Alessia Russo from the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Padova was awarded a 2-year STARS Grant 2021 for her project: Generationally Sustainable Institutions (GENESIS).
Her project aims at designing optimal institutions for the enforcement of sustainable intergenerational policies. Given that the costs associated with reforms of unsustainable intergenerational policies are huge, the goal of the project is threefold: 1) to provide a new theoretical framework for characterizing generationally sustainable institutions; 2) to develop a quantitative framework and numerical methods to analyse the welfare implications of optimal policies; and 3) to deliver fiscal rules for actual policy making that will enhance enforceability and flexibility.
Thanks to the STARS Grant, Alessia will hire a two-year postdoctoral fellow and organise an international Conference on Fiscal Policy and Intergenerational Sustainability.
