Planning for adversity is the ability of a firm to detect unexpected events before they arise preventing their consequences.
In this paper, the authors investigate if and how SMEs' planning for adversity affects firms' performance.
Their findings show that immigrant-led SMEs are characterized by a lower performance level and that they are less likely to implement an adversity plan, especially when they are in an enclave sector. Finally, planning for adversity is good for SMEs performance and allows to pick up early warning signals of a threat, to be prepared for crises before they arise and before the firm is damaged.
